Welcome to ADVrider’s Photos of the Week. We begin this round with a nice shot from @pingvin, taken in western Norway where he was riding a 2019 Triumph Scrambler 1200. Our Featured Photo presents us with a somewhat unusual perspective, and looks great while doing it. Pingvin says he took “3 different multi day trips” to western Norway this summer, so we get a range of photos. See below for more.

Sounds good!

Here’s a shot from @kiwial of Marlborough Sounds in New Zealand, taken just about a month ago. He was riding a Suzuki GSX.

Exploring Alberta

Two shots from @donbrom here, taken just a few days ago while exploring one of Canada’s western provinces aboard his 2016 Kawasaki KLR. “It was time for more Western Canada exploration so the KLR came out of storage and off we went to ride the Forestry Trunk Road in Western Alberta. From Coleman to Nordegg we had great riding. Much needed rain then fell on the run through to Hinton which made the ride interesting and limited the scenery somewhat.” These days, rain in western Canada often means an end (or at least a dampening) of wildfires, so those clouds are good clouds!

And this cloud is not

Not good, that is. Our contributor @Westcoast890 was riding a 2011 BMW F850 on loan from a friend when this logging truck stirred up some dust. He was on the north end of Vancouver Island, riding “the North Island 1000.”

The Dolomites

Here’s a shot taken near the Sella Pass in the Italian Dolomites, otherwise known as motorcycle heaven. According to our contributor @igorshen, that is Langkofel behind the bike. He says he spent a few days riding in the Dolomites as part of a 12,000 km ride around the Balkan countries. He also sent us a bunch of photos, so keep reading! That’s a 2009 Yamaha XT660Z Tenere, by the way.

A popular photo spot above town of Corvara, Dolomites.

Below, another shot from near the Sella. It’s nearly impossible to take a bad photo in this gorgeous landscape, and it’s even harder to find a boring road.

Below, on the way to Falzarego Pass, still in the Dolomites.

And the final pic from @igorshen, “atop Pass Giau,” still in the Dolomites. For a short video of his ride, see youtube.com.

ATGATT – or maybe not!

Says @Bakio, who was riding a BMW K 75 in the Baja with his 40-year-old daughter (“I am 73”), “This photo was in Puerto Escondido Mexico. I am pretty sure it was a chain mail pull over but I could not get them to stop so I could check.”

Good routes

Says @Geezerguy, who was riding that 2009 BMW R1200GS a few days ago, the picture below was taken at Marshall Pass in Colorado, on a “trip around the block” from home in the central part of the state. “Marshall Pass is the one dirt route of three good routes over the Continental Divide in my county. They are all fun! Photo taken last week before the colors start to change.”

Back to NZ

Here’s a shot taken on the west coast of New Zealand’s South Island, while @KTMP was on a solo ride “exploring side roads and the incredible scenery.” That’s a 2023 KTM 890R.

And back to Italy

This is Passo Gardena, which @147db says is “part of the Sellaronda, one of the stretches of road that surrounds the Sella Group, and is often very busy due to its beauty and the Corvara – Selva di Val Gardena connection.” He was there on this 2006 Buell Ulysses a few months ago.

Some stats re Passo Gardena: altitude, 2,137 m; length, 29 km; connection, Selva di Val Gardena to Corvara; number of hairpin bends: 28. Check this for more on the road.

Up in Portugal

The 1999 BMW R1100GS in the photo below is headed to Portugal’s highest point, “Torre,” as part of this year’s 4,500 mile Euro trip “on the unstoppable ‘Pikeypotamus’,” says @BikeyPikey.

We’d met a guy the night before in a supermarket who helped us out with the lingo whilst we were shopping for rations and he told us about this annual bike meet happening the next day. What a fantastic ride to get there and the ride was called “Serra da Estrella”. Look it up if you’re in the area around mid June.

Travels on a Wee-Strom

The 2024 Suzuki DL250SX V-Strom in the photo below belongs to Anthony, who bought it “because I wanted something small and nimble for outback riding.” Looks like a good choice. “During the running in I went to Mt Dundas in Victoria and other mountains to check out its road manners. I am 71, getting old and frail, so wanted a small motorcycle and the new DL fitted the bill. I have ridden it to Western Australia and Archaroola in South Australia and had a great fun ride. Now with over 6k kilometres I am looking forward to many fun rides.” Photo taken just a few months ago, and there are three more below.

Another of the little V-Strom, somewhere in Australia.

Here, he’s on his way to Western Australia, with a stop at the . . . well, the sign says it all. You’d think they’d plant a tree instead of putting up a sign, but that’s Australia for you.

And here, he’s with a mate “on his Ducati SP4s” in the “beautiful Flander Ranges.” Photo taken just last week.

Ahh, Romania!

To conclude today’s adventure, we spend some time with @Peter640 who was in Romania on his 2014 BMW R1200GS. “We stopped at MotoCamp Romania and based ourselves at Doru’s fabulous home from home so we could ride the TransAlpina and the Transfăgărășan.”

I rode both last year, but this year it was nice to show Stephen and perfect to give his Moto Guzzi a workout! The weather was awesome. The bears plentiful and the riding excellent.

We rode the Transfăgărășa south headed for Bulgaria. After the cooler weather of the high passes, the lower country of southern Romania was brutally hot!

@Peter640 sent the images from southern Bulgaria a few days ago. He says he’ll send more pics, and he’s “still on plan for Georgia and Armenia!” which is good news for all of us.

And that’ll be it for today, so thanks for coming by, and be sure to come back next week for more! Got pictures? Click below!
